About BM

Barkley's Mouth is all about the NBA as we speak on what's going down in the Association today and what should be happening down the line.  It's all about the glory (and disgrace) of the NBA. Our style is down, dirty, honest, and entertaining, just like Charles Barkley himself. Thanks for peeping what we throw down!

Lamar Odom Reaches Out To Jerry Buss

According to the LA Times' Lakers Blog, Lamar Odom has contacted Los Angeles Lakers' owner, Dr. Jerry Buss. Earlier this week, the Lakers pulled their offer of three years for $30 million or four years for $36 million from the table thanks to Odom's agent, Jeff Schwartz giving Buss the cold shoulder like Buss was a one-night stand he was trying to avoid. Hey, we've all been there, right?

However, ignoring the man that can potentially give your client, as well as yourself, millions of dollars plus the promise of consistent opportunities at contending for an NBA title is just plain dumb. I mean, even the aforementioned one-night stand gets a perfunctory, "I'm sorry, I meant to call you... yeah... this isn't going to work..." when you happen to bump into her at the movies a week later. At the concession stand. Where she just bought a large soda. Which she eventually spills over your head. Just sayin'.

In any case, for the Lakers to solidify their title as "favorite for the NBA title and go back-to-back," they most definitely need Odom on their team. The addition of Ron Artest is excellent and he has many talents on the floor, but Odom provides a punch off the pine that drastically changes the dynamic of the team.

Also, there are conflicting reports in regards to the offer the Lakers extended to Odom with the highest offer actually being three years and $27 million, not the aforementioned figures above. So, Odom makes $1 million less a year. Is that so bad when you're already making $9 million? However, there is also an offer from the Miami Heat to factor in. It's a five-year deal worth $34 million, but, Odom will have the option to become a free agent after three years. That's some nice freedom there. However, the situation with Dwyane Wade is still tenuous as he can be a free agent in 2010, but maybe if the Heat sign Odom, Wade is persuaded to stay. But, how close are the Heat to a title? A lot further away from a Lakers team that includes Artest, Pau Gasol, promising big man Andrew Bynum, and that Kobe Bryant guy. If I'm Odom, I sign any offer the Lakers give me.

But, who am I to say, right? I'm not Odom, although I have the same sweet tooth he has. Difference is that he's still in athletic shape and I'm still in writing about athletes shape. In any case, I'm sure Lakers Nation is holding their breaths. That's what I did when I had that soda spilled over my head. Yeah, I know... different situation. Just sayin'.

H/T to With Malice.
